Greetings. My name is Michael Malley and I serve as the pastor of the BCMC, the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church. This is a request and an invitation – an invitation for you to consider our 2018 FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN entitled: Sustain in 2018: 200 Supporters of the BCMC Vision – as you consider your charitable giving for this year.

In this campaign, without grasping, our goal is to identify 200 individuals, couples, families, or groups that believe in and want to support the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church in our vision and mission. We are seeking 150 Sponsors who would like to donate $100 or more to help the BCMC this year and 50 Dedicated Advocates who want to contribute $1,000 or more to the BCMC in 2018 – for a total of 200 Supporters of our Mission & Vision.
First, a little background: Back in 2009, my wife Ali and I, with the help of many others, began an “experiment” that we called the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church, the BCMC, a home church inspired and grounded by the teachings and Mindfulness Trainings of the Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh.

Boldly bringing together what is beneficial in Buddhism, Christianity, and Mother Earth Spirituality, we held over 100 BCMC services in our home, serving over 200 people – including Sunday Morning Services, a Men’s Group, a Women’s Group, Teen & Children’s Programming, Potlucks, Movie Nights, Special Events, and more.
With fits and starts, we’ve tried to expand the BCMC beyond being a home church, but NOW is the time for the BCMC to move beyond the walls of our home. NOW is the time for the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church to water beneficial seeds in many more lives. Our campaign, Sustain in 2018: 200 Supporters of the BCMC Vision, will give us the Financial Support we need so that the BCMC can manifest both more broadly and more deeply in 2018.

Without grasping, between now and May 1st, we want to identify 200 Supporters who believe in the mission and value of the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church; 200 Patrons who either know of the good work that the BCMC has done or recognize the work that the BCMC CAN DO in the years ahead.
With these 200 Sponsors – 150 Supporters offering $100 or more and 50 Dedicated Advocates contributing $1,000 or more – the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church will have a Strong Financial Foundation, allowing us to achieve our 2018 Goals.
Five of our Goals for 2018 are as follows:
1. Renting a public space for Services, Workshops, Classes, and Special Events;
2. Offering regular Mindfulness Programs in Under-Served Columbus Neighborhoods, reaching Diverse Communities that are seldom the focus of mindfulness programming;
3. Providing Modest Salaries for myself as Senior Pastor and Ali as Youth Programming Coordinator, as we coordinate and lead activities with a diverse & vibrant Volunteer Base;
4. Supporting the BCMC in developing a Strong Online Presence that will “Water Beneficial Seeds” far beyond Central Ohio; and, finally,
5. Invigorating the BCMC Youth and Young Adult Programming with a special focus on Mindfully Caring for our Planet.

Imagine a Church inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh’s Teachings – a Church where you may lovingly meet BOTH Jesus & the Buddha AND their Teachings;
Imagine a Church that recognizes “Caring for our Earth” as a Fundamental Spiritual & Ethical Concern – a Church committed to Re-Sacralizing our Relationships with Ourselves, Each Other, and the Natural World;
Imagine a Church where the Beneficial Traditions of each Congregant’s Blood, Spirit, & Land Ancestors – whether they be Muslim, Jewish, or Hindu – Humanist, Sufi, or Pagan – are welcomed to enrich us all, adding to the good of the entire Sangha, the entire Spiritual Community;
Imagine a Church dedicated to Compassion, Loving Kindness, and Building a Healthy, Diverse & Open Community – where Everyone is welcome regardless of Race, Class, Age, Gender, Sexual Preference, or Political Party;

Imagine a Church based in Mindfulness and dedicated to “Watering Beneficial Seeds;” a Community that Honors the Vastness and the Mystery of the Great Sacredness which is inherent in all and related to all.

Such a Church began in Central Ohio in 2009 as a home church.
In 2018, with your Help and Financial Support, the Vision of the Buddhist Christian Mother-Earth Church will Continue, Grow, and Expand beyond the walls of our home – Touching, Inspiring, and Benefitting many more people.
